Ride-Out: Yorkshire Dales
June 17 @ 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
The main part of the ride does a big circuit taking in some of the highlights of the Yorkshire Dales.
We pass through the old market towns of Knaresborough and Pateley Bridge and then to Grassington for lunch. Grassington is certainly a beautiful village in Upper Wharfedale’s stunning scenery, but it’s far more than that. Whether it’s the sense of history, or perhaps the great shops, the friendly pubs, or the welcoming locals, who knows? They all contribute to the magic of this place. I have found an interesting pub there who will be expecting us for a carvery. If you do not want lunch there is plenty else to do.
Then we head north west and then south east to cross Malham Moor through spectacular Dales scenery.
At Stainforth we join the B6479 and then the B6255 which runs nearly to Hawes. As roads go these have to be a bikers’ paradise. You can tell this from the number of sports bikes parked up in Hawes. After a break in Hawes we continue eastwards through Aysgarth, Leyburn and Masham before starting back home.
Meet at the A57 Café at 9 to leave promptly at 9 30. We will ride up the A1 to Wetherby Services for a brew and the Cornish pasties sold there are good.
If anyone would like a pickup further north please let me know. Blyth Services might be convenient for some. You could find somewhere safe to park and watch for us from the bridge or we could pull into the services. (But remember that the slip road is part of the motorway so you cannot wait there).
The route home also takes the A1 as it’s quicker. The ride will end at Markham Moor Services at about 6 pm.
Mileage: About 250.
Full tank etc.
